Baseball Game Preview: Saxony Lutheran Crusaders vs. St. Pius X Lancers

The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders will head out to challenge the St. Pius X Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Pius X took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Saxony Lutheran, who comes in off a win.

If Saxony Lutheran beats St. Pius X with six runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Saxony Lutheran beat Leopold on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Crusaders.

James Hope spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Korby Engert was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kai McDowell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Pius X came up short against Bayless on Thursday and fell 5-2.

Brennan Ervin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ervin was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Ervin wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Benj Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Saxony Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for St. Pius X, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Saxony Lutheran skirted past St. Pius X 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saxony Lutheran since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
