Basketball Recap: Hallie Schwieterman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jay County over Yorktown

Jay County was the 56-48 winner over Yorktown when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Jay County Patriots opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-41 defeat to the Yorktown Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Tigers are ranked 89th).

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hallie Schwieterman, who posted 16 points and four steals. The match was Schwieterman's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raylah Newton, who earned eight points.

Lilly Sylvester continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Yorktown, putting up 17 points and eight rebounds. Sylvester is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alexis Fields, who put up nine points and six rebounds.

Jay County's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7. As for Yorktown, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.

Jay County will take on Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Yorktown, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Yorktown Tigers duke it out with the Muncie Central Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
