Softball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short

Mercy extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They came up short against the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers, falling 23-5. The Magic were not able to make up for their loss to the Cavaliers from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

As for Archbishop Spalding, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2. The game marked their most dominant win of the season.

For Archbishop Spalding's part, Cessi Prince looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Prince has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Codi, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Tori Codi, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Mercy will take on Dulaney at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Archbishop Spalding, they will face off against Leonardtown at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
