Basketball Recap: Westminster Comes Up Short

Westminster was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 53-45 to the St. Joseph's Catholic Knights. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 254th in Georgia, while the Knights are ranked 115th in South Carolina).

Tiffany Helmer continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Joseph's Catholic, going 6 for 14 on her way to 22 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Helmer has scored at least a third of St. Joseph's Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Adams, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Westminster's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-4.

Westminster will head out to face off against Mount Pisgah Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Christ Church Episcopal at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th.
