Softball Recap: Valley Central Triumphs

Valley Central came out on top against Cornwall Central on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Vikings walked away with an 8-5 win over the Dragons. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won six in a row.

Emily Sharpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emily Smit and Adrianna Ferraro did most of the damage at the plate: Smit went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Ferraro went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Molly Uszenski, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Valley Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornwall Central struck out nine times.

Valley Central's record is now 8-2. As for Cornwall Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Central will host Washingtonville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Cornwall Central, they will be playing at home against Goshen Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Gladiators' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
