Basketball Recap: Wisner-Pilger Comes Up Short

Wisner-Pilger extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were outmatched by the Wakefield Trojans and fell 81-31. The Gators were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-16.

Wisner-Pilger's loss came despite strong showings from Stockton Bellar and Kyler Schapmann. Bellar posted ten points and five rebounds, while Schapmann had nine points. Bellar also posted an assist, marking his first of the season.

As for Wakefield, they now have a winning record of 3-2. They have beaten Wisner-Pilger the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Wisner-Pilger has come to flipping the script.

Wakefield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Metzler, who went 7-for-8 en route to 20 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Metzler now owns an excellent 60% shooting accuracy. Cael Johnson was another key player, shooting 50% from the field on his way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Looking ahead, Wisner-Pilger will be home for the holidays to greet North Bend Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Wakefield, they will head out to take on Bloomfield on Tuesday. The Trojans' defense better be ready for this one: the Bees have averaged an impressive 59 points per game this season.
