Baseball Recap: Torrance Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Torrance ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the San Marcos Royals 5-4. That's two games straight that the Tartars have won by just one run.

Torrance got a great performance from Kenichiro Torii as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. The Tartars are 8-1 when Torii allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Vaugn Reinert, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was River Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Torrance's third in a row) raised their record to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for San Marcos, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Torrance will square off against Palos Verdes at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Sea Kings' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Tartars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for San Marcos, they will face off against Santa Barbara at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
