Football Game Preview: Charles City Comets vs. Independence Mustangs

Charles City hasn't had much luck against Independence recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Comets will head out to square off against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Charles City has given up an average of 33.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Charles City's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Clear Lake on Friday. They were outmatched by the Lions and fell 63-0. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Lions are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, Independence got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They blew past Iowa Falls-Alden 35-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 33 points or more this season.

Charles City's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Independence, they moved to 5-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Charles City was taken down by Independence 47-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
