Football Recap: Mason Roberts and Tanner Jones Lead the Defense for Herscher Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Herscher ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 19-13 win over the Reed-Custer Comets. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Comets, too.

Alek Draper was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 105 yards and one TD. An impressive showing, but he really ramped things up playing D: he made 13 total tackles and defended two passes. Herscher also got help from Gaige Brown, who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.

Herscher didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mason Roberts and Tanner Jones.

Herscher is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Reed-Custer, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Herscher will square off against rival Coal City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Reed-Custer is set to challenge their familiar foe Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
