While Southeast Career Tech's victory against Doral Academy Red Rock wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Southeast Career Tech skirted past Doral Academy Red Rock 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Roadrunners in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won three in a row.
Southeast Career Tech had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 17-25, 28-26, 25-19, 15-10.
Meanwhile, Sierra Vista faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Sierra Vista won by a set and slipped past Green Valley 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mountain Lions have posted since February 28th.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (107-106) Sierra Vista actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 25-21, 16-14.
Southeast Career Tech better focus on containing Zaihen Arenas-Bailey and Regi Beshiri as the pair were huge in Sierra Vista's win. Arenas-Bailey had 17 digs and 17 assists, while Beshiri had 16 kills and 11 digs. Beshiri is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had five or more in each of the last 50 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Diaz, who had 17 digs and two assists.
The win made it two in a row for Sierra Vista and bumps their season record up to 5-7. As for Southeast Career Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Southeast Career Tech couldn't quite get it done against Sierra Vista when the teams last played back in March of 2022 as they fell 2-0. Can Southeast Career Tech avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
