Baseball Game Preview: Holyoke Dragons vs. Akron Rams

The Holyoke Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Akron Rams at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Holyoke has struggled recently with 15 defeats in a row, while Akron will arrive with five straight victories.

Holyoke lost 19-9 to Prairie on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Dragons have lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, Akron got the win against Caliche on Friday by a conclusive 14-1. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.

Alex Bowin and Jakzon Livesay were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Bowin struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Livesay tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave Bowin a new career-high. At bat, Bowin went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple, while Livesay went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That triple marked the first that Bowin hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Poss, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jax Kusel, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Akron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .579 or higher in three consecutive games.

Akron's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Holyoke, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.

Holyoke couldn't quite finish off Akron in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 12-10. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
