Recap: Centennial Rams vs. Cotopaxi Pirates
The Centennial Rams's 14-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cotopaxi. Centennial has struggled against Cotopaxi recently, as their matchup on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Centennial lost, one person who can't be blamed is Devon Vigil. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Vigil scored 15 or more points. Martin Navarro was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Cotopaxi's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrance Evans, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Evans is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Tezak, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Centennial's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-4. As for Cotopaxi, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Centennial will be playing in front of their home fans against Trinidad at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Trinidad is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Cotopaxi, they will head out on the road to face off against Del Norte at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Del Norte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
