Softball Recap: Derby Comes Up Short

Derby extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Monday, dropping them down to 0-8. They lost 20-1 to the Woodland Regional Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Raiders of the 14-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Woodland Regional, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.

For Woodland Regional's part, Caitlyn Braun made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Braun has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kate Lisowski was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Emma DeGeorge was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Derby will face off against Seymour at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Woodland Regional, they will challenge Ansonia at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Chargers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
