Preview: Kingstree Blazers vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers
The Kingstree Blazers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Andrew Jackson Volunteers at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Kingstree walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Timberland 14-12.
The critical scores for Kingstree came from Xavier Dukes and Rodney Bryant.
One reason for the win was Kingstree's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Timberland's QB won't forget Terrance Scott anytime soon given Scott sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past Ridgeland-Hardeeville 58-16 at home. The result was nothing new for Andrew Jackson, who have now won six games by 21 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Trey Thompson, who rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Thompson is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Brady Williams, who threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Kingstree's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points per game. As for Andrew Jackson, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Kingstree has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Andrew Jackson struggles in that department as they've been even better at 207.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
