Basketball Game Preview: Poteau Pirates vs. Pocola Indians

After both having extra time off, the Poteau Pirates and the Pocola Indians will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poteau is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Poteau lost 70-45 to Eufaula two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Ironheads are ranked 83rd).

Meanwhile, Pocola took their match last Saturday with ease, bagging a 57-30 win over Talihina. That 27 point margin sets a new team best for the Indians this season.

Pocola is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Poteau, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Poteau beat Pocola 71-64 in their previous meeting back in January of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poteau since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
