Softball Recap: Colonial Beach Drifters vs. James Monroe Yellow Jackets
Colonial Beach had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it five. They lost 25-15 to the James Monroe Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-5 back in March.
Zayna Wolfe made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Another player making a difference was Emory Steffey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
As for James Monroe, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-6-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On James Monroe's side, they let Morgan Branson and Madison Branson run wild. Morgan got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, two triples, and three runs, while Madison got on base in all six of her plate appearances with 11 stolen bases and four runs. Those triples were Morgan's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amber Coppage, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
