Football Recap: Covenant Day Lions vs. Trinity Christian Crusaders
Covenant Day had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it six. They were beaten by the Trinity Christian Crusaders 43-6. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crusaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
As for Trinity Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Covenant Day is ranked 322nd).
Trinity Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaden Clifton out in front who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Clifton a new career-high. Another big playmaker for Trinity Christian was Dynovan Marshmon, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Covenant Day wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 51-21 defeat against Harrells Christian Academy on the 26th. As for Trinity Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-8 loss against High Point Christian Academy on the 26th.
