Softball Preview: Omro Foxes vs. Mayville Cardinals
Omro hasn't had much luck against Mayville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Foxes will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m.
Omro is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against North Fond du Lac, falling 10-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Foxes couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mayville took on Campbellsport on Tuesday. The Cardinals won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 6-5. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Allie Schwirtz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Izzy McFadden was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Aumann, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Mayville's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Omro, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
