Softball Game Preview: Reedley Pirates vs. Sanger West Hornets

The Reedley Pirates will head out to take on the Sanger West Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Reedley will be strutting in after a win while Sanger West will be coming in after a defeat.

Reedley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Orange Cove, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Reedley's way against Orange Cove on Tuesday as Reedley made off with a 13-4 victory. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 5, 2020, but that streak is no more.

Delillah Marin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Marin was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Reedley got a massive performance out of Jocelyn Fonseca, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Kristyn Gordon was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4.

Reedley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sanger West came up short against Highland last Saturday and fell 6-1. The contest marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Sanger West's loss dropped their record down to 2-2-1. As for Reedley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Reedley took their victory against Sanger West in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Reedley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
