Baseball Recap: Destin's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Destin came into Friday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Baker Gators 5-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sharks also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

Vance Kirby made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Palmer Robbins was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Destin is 3-1 when Robbins posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Dominic Rivas was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Destin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Destin's record now sits at 5-9. As for Baker, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Destin will face off against Lighthouse Private Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Baker, they will venture away from home to take on Rocky Bayou Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
