Basketball Recap: Harlem Comes Up Short

Harlem lost against Freeport back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Harlem Huskies fell 70-60 to the Freeport Pretzels. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Pretzels are ranked 126th).

Paityn London was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 36 points and ten assists for Freeport. London also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Freeport is 21-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 2-4 otherwise. Kymarea Parker was another key player, going 5-for-7 en route to 10 points and six boards.

Harlem has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-21 record this season. As for Freeport, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harlem will head out to take on Jefferson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Harlem's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Freeport, they will venture away from home to face off against Belvidere North at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Freeport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
