Softball Recap: Rondout Valley Starts Season with Victory Against Dover

Rondout Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dover Dragons a 12-0 shutout.

Ella Schoonmaker made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Schoonmaker was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Johnson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Joleigh Kozack was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Dover's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Rondout Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Marlboro Central at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Dover will face off against rival Ellenville at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
