Preview: Heartland Christian Saints vs. Kokomo HomeSchool Eagles
The Heartland Christian Saints will head out on the road to face off against the Kokomo HomeSchool Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Heartland Christian has three straight victories, Kokomo HomeSchool has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Heartland Christian has not done well against Colonial Christian recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Heartland Christian took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 62-23 victory over Colonial Christian. Given Heartland Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Colonial Christian is ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Heartland Christian can attribute much of their success to Reagan Clemens, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Clemens, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Kokomo HomeSchool fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Capital HomeSchool on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the by a score of 52-50.
Despite the loss, Kokomo HomeSchool had strong showings from David Hart, who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds, and Jude Hogsett, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grayson Hembree, who scored 6 points.
Heartland Christian's win bumped their season record to 6-3 while Colonial Christian's defeat dropped theirs to 0-3.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Heartland Christian haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Kokomo HomeSchool, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 per game. Given Heartland Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Kokomo HomeSchool will need to find a way to close that gap.
