Football Game Preview: Cypress Ranch Mustangs vs. Klein Bearkats

The Cypress Ranch Mustangs will square off against the Klein Bearkats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cypress Ranch will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Cypress Ranch and Langham Creek, and Cypress Ranch kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 37-16 margin over the Lobos on Saturday. Considering the Mustangs have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Cypress Ranch's victory came down to the chemistry between Braden Baker and his top target Manny Leyja. Baker threw for 239 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes while Leyja picked up 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Leyja a new career-high.

Cypress Ranch didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Langham Creek to a completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Johnathan Long, Dorian Rogers, and David Crosby, who each logged one passes deflected. Cypress Ranch wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 76.5%.

Cypress Ranch's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ayden Combs, Calvin Thomas, and Kaden Marshall, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Klein lost to Magnolia on the road by a 38-22 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bearkats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 63rd).

Cypress Ranch will have to contain Edward Kelly Jr as he made an impact in Klein's last game. He rushed for 165 yards and one score, and also picked up 47 receiving yards and one touchdown. Kelly Jr's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 109 rushing yards.

Klein's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Cypress Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
