Softball Recap: Desoto County Falls to Avon Park in First Game of Season

DeSoto County kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 14-5 to the Avon Park Red Devils. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 9-4 to them when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Juliette Wolcott was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emery Skinner, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, DeSoto County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

DeSoto County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-10 win against Hardee on the 11th. As for Avon Park, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Davenport at 7:30 p.m. on February 18th.
