Softball Recap: Davenport Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Davenport Broncos came up short against the Lake Wales Highlanders and fell 5-2. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by exactly three runs.

Davenport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Gonzalez, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Morgan Cresswell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Davenport lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

This is the second loss in a row for Davenport and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Lake Wales, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Davenport will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lake Gibson at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. As for Lake Wales, they will square off against Inspiration Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Inspiration Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
