Softball Recap: Canon-McMillan Triumphs

Canon-McMillan came out on top against Pine-Richland on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Big Macs took their contest against the Rams 8-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-6 back in April.

Brooke Bumer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addy Downey, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kadence Merigo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

The win got Canon-McMillan back to even at 10-10. As for Pine-Richland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pine-Richland beat Canon-McMillan by a score of 9-4 on Monday.
