Baseball Recap: Chautauqua Lake Beats Cassadaga Valley for Their Third Straight Victory

Chautauqua Lake had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Cassadaga Valley Cougars 13-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 on Monday.

Michael Jauss made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Chautauqua Lake: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Jauss was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Devin Hewes was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cayden Blackman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Chautauqua Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Chautauqua Lake's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Cassadaga Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Chautauqua Lake will host Barker at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.47 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cassadaga Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-4 win against Pine Valley Central on the 20th.
