Softball Preview: Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights vs. Oakville Tigers

The Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Oakville Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Incarnate Word Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Oakville will be coming in after a defeat.

While Incarnate Word Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-17-3), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Fort Zumwalt South 12-2 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Knights.

Incarnate Word Academy let Alexis Clayborne and Erin Meriwether loose on the outfield. Clayborne went 6-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Meriwether scored three runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance gave Clayborne a new career-high in OBP. The team also got some help courtesy of Charli Niemczyk, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Incarnate Word Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Zumwalt South only posted an OBP of .043.

Meanwhile, Oakville entered their matchup against Northwest on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Oakville fell 7-2 to Northwest. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Incarnate Word Academy's record is now 7-4. As for Oakville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
