Softball Recap: Trinity Comes Up Short

Trinity dropped down to 7-7 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 10-0 to the Madisonville Mustangs. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Madisonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Madisonville's part, they got a great performance from Claire Schuerg as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Schuerg has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ruby Redden was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie West, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Trinity will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on New Waverly at 5:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Madisonville, they will face off against Bellville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
