Baseball Recap: Great Valley's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Great Valley took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Coatesville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over the Red Raiders on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted against the Red Raiders since May 11, 2015.

Joey Newell and Ryan Spiess did most of the damage at the plate: Newell went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Spiess scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Spiess a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Brady Hounsell, who scored two runs while going 1-for-5.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Great Valley, bringing their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Coatesville, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.

Great Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 15-5 victory against Bayard Rustin on the 8th. As for Coatesville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Downingtown East on the 9th.
