Baseball Game Preview: Polytech Panthers vs. Milford Buccaneers

The Polytech Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Milford Buccaneers at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Polytech is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Smyrna, who was ranked 25th at the time (Polytech was ranked 12th). The Panthers walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Eagles on Thursday.

Ryan Zimmerman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits.

At the plate, Hermes Rodriguez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was William Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Milford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Smyrna by a score of 7-3 on Friday.

Milford's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Polytech, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Everything went Polytech's way against Milford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Polytech made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
