Softball Preview: Basile Bearcats vs. Crowley Gent
The Basile Bearcats will challenge the Crowley Gent at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Basile took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Elizabeth 19-9. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Bearcats this season.
Meanwhile, Crowley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against St. Martinville as Crowley made off with an 18-7 win. That's two games straight that the Gent have won by exactly 11 runs.
Erika Hebert was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Hebert was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Crowley got a massive performance out of Zoe Giles, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one triple. The dominant performance gave Giles a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Zailey Smith, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Crowley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Martinville struck out 12 times.
Basile's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Crowley, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
