Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens lost against Troy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Athens Wildcats took a hard 71-52 fall against the Troy Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 539th, while the Trojans are ranked 159th).

Despite the loss, Athens still got an impressive performance from Adam Kemp, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten assists. The dominant performance gave Kemp a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Troy Rosenbloom, who posted 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Athens and nudges their season record down to 8-12. As for Troy, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Coming up, Athens won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mount Carmel at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mount Carmel will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Athens surely won't give up without a fight. As for Troy, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Jersey Shore at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Troy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Jersey Shore likes a good challenge.
