Baseball Recap: Neuse Charter Drops Season-High Score on Union

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Neuse Charter). They never let the Union Spartans get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Tuesday. The Cougars not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024.

Connor Phillips made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Eli Edwards was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Will Denning also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Neuse Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Neuse Charter's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Union, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Neuse Charter will welcome North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Union, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Lakewood at 6:00 p.m.
