Basketball Recap: Chewelah Comes Up Short

Chewelah lost against Northwest Christian School back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Chewelah Cougars were outmatched by the Northwest Christian School Crusaders and fell 70-41. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Crusaders are ranked 78th).

Avi West continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northwest Christian School, going 9 of 13 on his way to 27 points. The contest was West's 21st in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Grant, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Chewelah and nudges their season record down to 2-8. As for Northwest Christian School, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chewelah will host St. George's at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwest Christian School, they will challenge Davenport at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
