The U-32 Raiders will face off against the Mt. Abraham Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
U-32 is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hartford a 7-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won three in a row.
Meanwhile, Mt. Abraham faced Harwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles blew past the Highlanders 12-4.
Evan Corrigan and Abe Ready were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Corrigan pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ready tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Corrigan went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Ready got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Castillo, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stefan Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mt. Abraham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
U-32's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Mt. Abraham, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1-1.
U-32 came up short against Mt. Abraham in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, falling 5-1. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
