Baseball Recap: Marshall Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Marshall had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Pasadena Bulldogs. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Michael Gerst looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marshall's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nate Callaway, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base. Trevor Lain was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.

Marshall's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pasadena, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9-1.

Looking ahead, Marshall will be playing in front of their home fans against Rosemead at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pasadena, they will head out on the road to face off against Burroughs at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Burroughs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Pasadena's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
