Basketball Recap: North Edgecombe Comes Up Short

North Edgecombe lost against SouthWest Edgecombe last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The North Edgecombe Warriors took a blow against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars, falling 67-33. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-11.

North Edgecombe's loss came despite strong showings from Jahmir Parker and Zyquarius Cherry. Parker dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Cherry went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points.

SouthWest Edgecombe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zy Thigpen, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Thigpen has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Bridgers, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

North Edgecombe has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Edgecombe will challenge Southeast Halifax at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars duke it out with the North Pitt Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
