Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Academy Extends Winning Streak to Three

St. John Paul II Academy extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Dior Johnson. The St. John Paul II Academy Eagles came out on top against the Grandview Prep Pride by a score of 63-53 on Friday thanks in part to Johnson, who went 12 for 19 en route to 29 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Kaufman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. He has become a key player for St. John Paul II Academy: the team is 12-5 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 2-4 otherwise.

Grandview Prep's loss came despite strong showings from Jaden Giron and Zack Burrow. Giron went 8 of 12 on his way to 22 points, while Burrow went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and four steals. Giron continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mike Jennings, who posted five points and five assists.

St. John Paul II Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Grandview Prep, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.

St. John Paul II Academy has already played their next contest, a 57-46 victory against Jupiter on the 28th. Grandview Prep has also already played their next game (against Olympic Heights), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
