The Bluffton Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Garrett Railroaders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Bluffton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Bluffton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 21-4 margin over Fort Wayne Wayne on Wednesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Josie Phillippe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Phillippe was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Isabella Stout was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jillian Phillippe, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Bluffton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Garrett entered their tilt with Churubusco on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 6-1. While the Railroaders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Like Bluffton, Garrett also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashlee Vanderbosch. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over seven innings pitched. Vanderbosch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Atalie Gullett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Remi Winebrenner also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Garrett pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season. As for Bluffton, their record is now 3-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bluffton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Garrett struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
