Volleyball Recap: Alyssa Bales and Ally Maynard Secure Win for Fairfield

Fairfield proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past the Paint Valley Bearcats 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since August 19th.

Fairfield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 15-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-8.

Leading Fairfield to victory were Ally Maynard and Alyssa Bales. Maynard had 15 digs and two aces, while Bales had 16 digs and three aces. Bales is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last nine games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Fairfield was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Fairfield's record is now 16-7. As for Paint Valley, their loss was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-20.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, Fairfield and Lynchburg-Clay will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Paint Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
