Columbia Rock Bridge's Katherine Harry led the Bruins to the Class 5 state title a year ago, now she heads up the Super Five All-State team.
By Dean BackesMaxPreps.com A season ago Columbia Rock Bridge's Katherine Harry performed at a high level in leading the Bruins to a 50-35 trouncing of Incarnate Word in the Missouri girls Class 5 state championship basketball game.
That performance lands the 6-foot-3 post player a spot on the 2008-2009 Missouri Super 5 Preseason All-State team.
Harry, who scored 21 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the title game, already holds the school record in blocks with 156 after three seasons.
Now in her senior season, Harry will more than likely claim Bruin records in career points scored (1,043) and career rebounds (691). Through three seasons, the DePaul recruit has 906 points and 665 rebounds.
Harry tallied a school record 391 points a year ago in leading Rock Bridge to its first girls state basketball title.
Joining Harry on the Show Me State's Super Five Team are Drew Roberts (Blue Springs), Kayla Person (Incarnate Word), Samantha Heck (North Callaway) and Lindsay Vollmer (Penney).
Roberts has range from long distance, but does much of her damage as a scorer.
The two-time Associated Press All-Stater averaged 14 points and more than three assists per game during a season in which the Wildcats advanced to sectionals and went undefeated in Suburban Conference Big 7 play.
Roberts was a finalist for the 2007-2008 DiRenna Award, handed out annually to the top male and female basketball player in the Kansas City area by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association.
Person returns to Incarnate Word for her senior season after earning Associated Press All-State honors a season ago. The Drake signee has the ability to pull up and hit the jumper or go to the rim and score.
Person averaged 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 steals in getting the Red Knights into the Class 5 championship game against Rock Bridge.
Heck displayed her explosiveness in last season's 62-45 win over Southern Boone when she put up 29 points and pulled down 22 rebounds.
The 6-2 post player averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 assists 13.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in leading North Callaway to an 18-10 mark and a district runner-up finish.
After earning Associated Press All-State honors for the third straight year, Heck will take her talents to the Missouri Valley Conference next season, where she will play for Evansville University.
Following her junior season, Heck already has 1,635 points, 989 rebounds and 332 assists in a career in which she has participated in 79 games.
Vollmer doesn't have the numbers of the rest of her peers on the Missouri Super Five team. But give her another year or two and she will.
Following Penney's 47-39 win over then undefeated Westran in the Class 2 state championship game a year ago, Vollmer landed on every Class 2 first team All-State team.
The 5-10 guard led the Hornets in the title game with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
