Softball Recap: Stoughton's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Stoughton had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the Sauk Prairie Eagles with a sharp 13-2 victory on Friday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Madelyn Barsness made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Emily Matheny was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madyson Verville was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Stoughton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sauk Prairie only posted an OBP of .360.

Stoughton's win bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Sauk Prairie, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Coming up, Stoughton will head out on the road to face off against Reedsburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sauk Prairie, they will welcome La Crosse Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
