Football Recap: Godby Cougars vs. Wakulla War Eagles
Godby was the 27-7 winner over Wakulla when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cougars took a 38-21 bruising from the War Eagles on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly 17 points.
Despite the loss, Godby still got an impressive performance from Jamarin Simmons, who picked up 166 receiving yards and one TD.
Wakulla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Klees out in front who threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 81 yards on only 11 carries. Klees has become a key player for the War Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Wakulla also got a significant boost from Jeremiah Washington, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 165 yards.
Godby's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Wakulla, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Godby will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Wakulla, they will square off against South Walton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
