Softball Recap: Beardstown Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Beardstown challenged Camp Point Central on Monday. The Tigers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted against the Panthers since April 23, 2018.

Khloe Kearns spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Beardstown let Kylynn Maltby and Bella Palmer run wild. Maltby went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Palmer went 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Maltby has posted since back in March of 2024. Autumn Bowman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Beardstown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Camp Point Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Beardstown will head out to face off against Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Camp Point Central, they will welcome Hamilton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
