Softball Recap: Incarnate Word Academy's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

After only one run in their last contest, Incarnate Word Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against John Paul II on Friday. The Angels blew past the Centurions 16-1. Considering the Angels have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Arisela Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Kam Bean was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addie Aleman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Incarnate Word Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

The win (which was Incarnate Word Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 15-1-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for John Paul II, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Incarnate Word Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-2 win against New Braunfels Christian Academy on the 25th. John Paul II has also already played their next contest (against John Paul II), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
