Softball Game Preview: Northwestern Tigers vs. Barron Golden Bears

Northwestern is a perfect 10-0 against Barron since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Tigers will head out to take on the Golden Bears at 11:00 a.m. Northwestern will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

If Northwestern beats Barron with two runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Tigers didn't even let the Golden Bears on the board on Thursday, marking the Tigers' second-straight 2-0 shutout. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Barron's batters probably weren't too happy with Ellie Peterson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Peterson has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Northwestern's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashlyn Sutherland, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Gabby Berger also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Northwestern pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Barron, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6-1.
