Monta Vista's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They blew past the Cupertino Pioneers 3-0. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The win didn't come easy: Cupertino scored at least 21 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.

Monta Vista's victory bumped their record up to 20-11. As for Cupertino, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Monta Vista and Cupertino could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Matadors (ranked 135th) will meet Harker (ranked 19th) at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Cupertino will square off against Los Gatos at 6:45 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (296 vs. 72).
