The Bath County Chargers will head out to square off against the Highland Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bath County will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Craig County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
I Ingram made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Ingram was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on M Phillips, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was O Perdue, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Bath County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Highland had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Craig County 10-2 on Thursday.
Like Bath County, Highland also got a great game from a two-way player: John Wagner. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Wagner has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Zach Armstrong was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Carpenter, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Bath County's record now sits at 2-4. As for Highland, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Bath County suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Highland in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
